LA VOIX HUMAINE
A person waits—for a meeting, a signal, a phone call. In solitude, there is a journey from hope to despair, passing through pain, joy and fear. This is familiar to everyone. Yet it was the great playwright and poet Jean Cocteau who, in 1928, presented this experience in his play La voix humaine. A woman engages in a tragic phone conversation with an unseen beloved.
REFLECTIONS | DIALOGUE
Shushan Sargsyan’s mono-operas Reflections and Dialogue come together within a single theatrical space.
Reflections is a journey into the depths of a woman’s soul. It is a confrontation with one’s own essence, its reflections, experiences and emotions, born at the boundary between the inner and outer worlds, between our true selves and the way we perceive ourselves.
Dialogue tells the story of a man and a woman—their mutual attraction and opposition, their love and pain. It is a dialogue in which words sometimes prove powerless, while emotions become the only means of hearing and understanding one another.
Coming together on the same stage, the two mono-operas transform into a unified dramatic space—a world of reflections, dialogue, love and inner searching.
Music, sound, movement, and visual imagery intertwine to form a unified dramatic whole, through which the performance explores the experiences of the modern individual—love, freedom, and the price of choice.
